How to save a ChatGPT conversation as PDF
- Copy the part you need. Select the messages in your conversation, or use a response’s copy control. Paste the text into the editor above.
- Review and tidy it. Add a document title, optionally choose a date, and check the preview. You can edit the text or add Markdown headings and code fences.
- Download the PDF. Choose A4 or Letter and click Download PDF. Open the saved file to check the first and last pages before sharing it.
Why convert a ChatGPT conversation to PDF?
A PDF gives you a fixed copy of useful material: research notes with source links, a study explanation to read offline, or a coding discussion to keep beside a project. It also makes a short selection easier to share with someone who does not need the rest of the conversation.
Keep enough of your question to explain the answer’s context. Check factual claims and source links before treating AI-generated notes as a reference. Saving a conversation does not verify its contents.
What formatting is preserved?
The converter supports Markdown headings, paragraphs, bullet and numbered lists, bold and italic text, HTTP/HTTPS and email links, inline code, fenced code blocks, blockquotes and simple pipe tables. Basic formatting from rich-text clipboard data is converted into the same editable format.
Code uses a monospace font, retains indentation and wraps long lines. Short code blocks and table rows stay together when they fit; longer ones continue on another page. Tables wider than six columns become labelled entries in the PDF so the text stays readable.
Accented Latin characters, including ñ, remain text. Emojis and characters outside the PDF’s built-in fonts are drawn using your browser’s fonts, so their appearance depends on your device and those characters are not selectable. Images, attachments, mathematical typesetting, syntax colours and complex nested layouts are not preserved.
Is my ChatGPT conversation uploaded?
No. Pasting, previewing and PDF generation happen in your browser. This tool does not send the conversation, document title or PDF to Cifrivo or OpenAI, and it does not save a draft in browser storage. Clear removes the pasted text from the editor; keep your own copy before closing or refreshing the page.
The website still loads its normal assets and may use its existing consent-based analytics, but this converter does not include your document content in analytics events. Opening a link in your conversation visits that website only when you choose to click it.
Other ways to save a ChatGPT conversation
You can also use your browser’s Print → Save as PDF option, or paste the conversation into a document editor and export it. Browser printing is convenient for a quick copy; a document editor gives you more control over layout. Check print previews carefully, especially for long chats and scrollable code blocks.
