QR code scanner

Read a QR code locally from an image or activate the camera only when you choose, then copy or open recognized content.

Processed locallyYour files never leave your device.

Everything is processed locally in your browser.

Camera permission is requested only after pressing Use camera.

How it works

  1. Choose Scan image, or press Use camera and grant permission when prompted.
  2. Keep the QR sharp, well lit and fully inside the frame.
  3. Review the decoded content and its detected type.
  4. Copy it or open supported URL, email and phone actions.

Practical example

An uploaded screenshot containing https://cifrivo.com is decoded locally and shown as a URL with an explicit Open button; the scanner never navigates automatically.

Formula and explanation

The scanner relies on the browser's native BarcodeDetector API so image pixels do not need to leave the device. Support is strongest in current Chromium browsers and newer Safari versions; the interface reports clearly when a browser lacks the feature.

Camera permission is not requested during page load. It is requested only after pressing Use camera, prefers the rear-facing camera and stops its media tracks after a result or when you press Stop camera.

Cifrivo displays decoded content before any action. This matters because QR codes can hide misleading or malicious destinations. Check the domain before opening a URL and do not join an unknown Wi-Fi network merely because it appears in a code.

Frequently asked questions

Are uploaded QR images sent to a server?

No. A supported browser decodes the image locally through BarcodeDetector.

Why can the camera fail to open?

Permission may be denied, another app may use the camera, or the page may lack a secure HTTPS context.

Does the scanner open links automatically?

No. It shows the full decoded value first and requires you to press Open.
